The Point: Science of the Time

Wait—stand with what, now? For the Colson Center for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.

National Geographic is running an ad on Facebook featuring the caption, “Stand behind the facts. Stand with science. Stand for the planet,” and then below that, “Subscribe to National Geographic for just $12.”

It’s good advertising. But how will subscribing to this magazine help facts, science, or the planet in light of their January cover? If you recall, it featured a young boy dressed in pink leopard print with long, dyed hair and the caption, “The best thing about being a girl is that I don’t have to pretend to be a boy.”

Pushing the idea that biological males can become females and vice-versa while posturing as champions of science is a bit contradictory. It elevates an ideology that denies facts and science in favor of feelings.

National Geographic and similar publications paint themselves as objective, but they’ve got worldview assumptions like the rest of us. And their worldview, which denies something as basic as male and female and exploits children to popularize it, is anything but scientific.

I guess if NG is desperate for subscriptions? They are apparently willing to say anything, contradictory or not, to get them.

There is no massive conflict here. The facts are there are male and female bodies, male and female brains, and male and female sex chromosomes in each cell. For most people their body, brain, and chromosomes match. All three are female or all three are male.

But for the 0.6% of people who are transgender, a mismatch happens. Typically, they have a female brain, and a male body and chromosomes. Or vice versa.

More accurately, they have male or female structures in their brain.

What the yelling and screaming is a about is that there is lacking a consensus over what combinations of brain, body and DNA produce a male human, and which combination of results is to be labelled a male.

Unfortunately, little dialog is taking place, and thus it will take decades to reach agreement. Pity.
