An abomination stands where it shouldn’t be.
The Chinese government has spoken: Jesus can’t be Lord. The Communist Party is.
As one Chinese official put it, “there is no religion in human society that transcends nations.” The duty of the Chinese government, he continued, is to “actively guide” religions to be subordinate to and serve the overall interests of the nation and the Chinese people.” So China won’t allow the Vatican to appoint Catholic bishops. The Party will handle that.
This clash of worldviews was inevitable. As one-time communist Whittaker Chambers explained, Communism and Freedom are the “two irreconcilable faiths of our time.” Freedom requires religion and a belief in God, while Communism “restores man to his sovereignty by the simple method of denying God.”
Or, more accurately, the Communist party props itself up in the temple and proclaims itself God.
Please, pray for the millions of our Chinese brothers and sisters in Christ.
