John Stonestreet is executive director of Summit Ministries, a national Christian ministry dedicated to strengthening the Christian faith of young people in high school and college. John joined us for a lively conversation about the mission of summit and the unique challenges this rising generation faces as they leave home for college and work.
I first became aware of Summit through Heath and Marla Hardesty, who live not far from Summit’s headquarters in Colorado Springs. Heath was a Centurion in last year’s class with me, and Marla had been a participant in one of Summit’s seminars some years ago. They were both impressed by the rigor and camaraderie in Summit’s programs.
With so many difficult issues facing the young Christian at college and in our contemporary culture these days, Summit has carved out for itself a valuable niche. The goal? To so strengthen the spiritual lives of our young that they are able to make significant contributions in the world around them, bringing a winsome Christian worldview to the table wherever they go.
“Discourse,” an occasional podcast on BreakPoint, applies a Christian worldview lens to a broad range of issues related to contemporary culture. Stephen Reed, a Centurion in the class of 2008, is a former talk radio host and serves as grants and foundations specialist for PFM. If you see any cultural issues out there you would like to see us address in a future podcast, e-mail Stephen at: stephen_reed@pfm.org.
