Discourse #18: A Centurion Promotes the Manhattan Declaration By: Stephen Reed|Published: September 7, 2010 12:00 AM Interview with former New Mexico Congressman and Centurion, Bill Redmond Listen Now | Download With now over 600 commissioned Centurions nationwide, we’re always thrilled to hear when one or more of them works on something truly special. Bill Redmond of Los Alamos, New Mexico has discovered the joy of serving his community through promoting a Christian Worldview. Bill formerly served New Mexico in Congress. Now he is serving some of his former constituents again though for the cause of bringing a comprehensive Christian Worldview to the public’s attention. As part of his Centurions project, Bill and his fellow Centurion, Dayna Gardner, devised a plan to host a Conference promoting the Manhattan Declaration, bringing Catholics and Protestants together to support this pro-life, pro-traditional family, and pro-religious freedom document. The Manhattan Declaration now has over 470,000 signatures after just a few months following its release. Now it has many more, thanks to Bill and his fellow Centurions, Dayna Gardner, whose conference brought in an incredible 1600 participants, all united to support the principles of the Manhattan Declaration. The event featured Chuck Colson and the Archbishop of Santa Fe, Michael Sheehan. In addition to organizing this latest effort, Bill travels throughout New Mexico as a guest speaker, preaching and teaching Christian Worldview Studies as well as Biblical Foundations of American Government. He serves as Senior Consultant and Projects Development Coordinator for American Chinese Civic Exchange an Albuquerque/Nanjing based organization which encourages positive relationships between the American and Chinese peoples through medical, educational, civic and economic avenues. His Christian Worldview class notes have been translated into Chinese for use in his lectures to Chinese scientists residing in the United States working at Los Alamos and Sandia National Laboratories. His desire is to see worldview books and tapes available in English be translated into Chinese for use among Chinese pastors and Chinese Christian intellectuals. Additionally, Bill has been on the ground in China assisting house churches in their ministry following the 2008 earthquake in Sichuan Province which killed more than 90,000 leaving more than 5 million homeless. These trips include facilitating grief counseling and talking with government leaders about religious liberty. Recent local work with the Traditional Values Action Committee New Mexico includes collaborative efforts between Catholics and Evangelicals in defeating bills in the New Mexico Legislature on Domestic Partnership, Freedom of Choice Act, Assisted Suicide, and Embryonic Stem Cell Research. In this interview, Bill tells us about the New Mexico conference and where he hopes it leads. He heartily recommends the Centurion Program for serious Christians who want to learn about the Lordship of Christ over every domain of reality, “For the Earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it.”
