  • Ohio to Ban Abortion?: A bill just passed in the Ohio state legislature would prohibit abortion after a detectable heartbeat, making it one of the strictest abortion proposals any state has passed in some time. It awaits Governor John Kasich’s signature. John Stonestreet and Ed Stetzer discuss what could happen if Governor Kasich signs it or the Republican-controlled legislature overrides his veto. As a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade, the “Heartbeat Act” would likely end up in the federal courts, and perhaps make it to the U.S. Supreme Court. With Donald Trump about to take office with the promise of conservative Supreme Court appointees, it’s a story worth watching closely.
Meanwhile, the culture continues to shift on the abortion issue. According to the pro-choice Guttmacher Institute, abortion in America is at its lowest level since Roe v. Wade was handed down in 1973. And of all restrictions of abortion passed since that time, most have been enacted during the last ten years. In response, pro-choice groups are pushing back harder than ever. Some have begun openly arguing that abortion is a positive good, even if it kills an unborn life.

  • Interview with N. T. Wright: Ed Stetzer talks with theologian and Anglican bishop, N. T. Wright, about his new book, “The Day the Revolution Began: Rediscovering the Meaning of Jesus’ Crucifixion.” When Jesus died, says Wright, He did not merely provide the sacrifice for our salvation. He achieved something that made the world a different place. The powers of darkness and death have been defeated, leaving us to live out the victory of our resurrected Christ in the midst of a still broken world. N. T. Wright Online has a special offer for BreakPoint listeners who want to pick up their copy of his book this holiday season. Click here to learn more.
