Forty-five Years Later…
.
Fifty Year Old Teenager: (To self:) Man, is this awesome or what.

Father: (Uninvited, peering over son’s shoulder). Hmmm.

Fifty Year Old Teenager: (Mildly annoyed at the intrusion, but impressed enough with his accomplishment to let it slide) This’ll make ‘em sit up and take notice. Dad, your son’s a genius.

Father: And a paragon of humility to boot.

Fifty Year Old Teenager: (Near-imperceptible sigh) Dad, I’m not taking credit; God enabled me to do it. All the glory goes to Him. But you have to admit it’s good, isn’t it? Nice to be gifted and chosen for the really important stuff.

Father: Let’s see… I’m trying to remember if “writing theology books” is among “the weightier matters of the law”…

Fifty Year Old Teenager: (Ignoring) Some of the arguments in here are GOOD; possibly unanswerable by Christians of other persuasions; those I like to call, “The Opposition”.

Father: So, son, is that what it’s all about: winning? Showing up “The Opposition”? Having the last word?

Fifty Year Old Teenager: It is when the glory of God is at stake.

Father: And is the glory of God at stake here? Just what *is* the glory of God?

Fifty Year Old Teenager: The truth. Don’t you agree?

Father: To tell you the truth…. no.

Fifty Year Old Teenager: Then what is?

Father: You are, my son.

Fifty Year Old Teenager: Uh, ok. Well thanks, Dad.

Father: And so is “The Opposition”.
