'Haiti Healing: Two Years Later, Hope Survives'

What I remember is the inefficiency. A large amount of contributions were made that could not possibly help because the nature of the emergency necessitated an extreme action that only a properly equipped organization like the navy could do-which it was already doing. The best that can be said is that people who otherwise would have given nothing gave money that arrived at a time when the urgent crises had passed and Haiti was again a miserable place in a world full of miserable places. Perhaps it sounds Scrooge-like to mention the fact but it does the poor limited good to allocate funds based on where reporters happen to be broadcasting from at the moment.
