To be fair, is that approval or limitation of wife-beating? That is a difference especially as Islam draws no clear distinction from the secular order of the time.

As for "religion of peace", that is diplospeak by non-moslems. The only major religion of peace I can think of is Jainism.

No Surprise
According to the Quran a husband may beat his wife. It would be easy to consider Islam a religion of peace if they would stop killing people.

does not that imply as a working hypothesis that they are in fact having difficulties in that particular area?
