Sometimes I think a lot of it is from an antiaesthetic and antiintellectual attitude among evangelicals and a xenophobic fear of Anything Not Evangelical.
One thing they could do is make fewer Biblical Sword and Sandals. There are to many of those and to often they maintain themselves because the writer thinks he has a religious duty to write it and the viewers to watch it.
