HHS Decision Threatens Religious Freedom

Sorry ma'am, but that decision can’t be defended. I’m John Stonestreet, and this is The Point.

In Monday’s USA Today, US Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius attempted to defend her decision to stomp on the freedom of religion. If you have not followed what has happened, HHS issued a decision on Aug 3 of last year that mandated full coverage of woman’s contraception by all insurance plans. The only organizations offered exemptions were those that only hired individuals who shared their religious faith, and whose central purpose was promoting their religious faith, and who only served those who shared their religious faith.

In other words, the exemption was for churches -- not for thousands of religious organizations like hospitals or charities. After a period of re-evaluating this decision, Sebelius then announced the original policy would stand except that an additional year would be given for groups to comply.

Her attempt Monday to defend this decision was pathetic, and I’ll tell you why tomorrow on the Point. In the meantime, visit thePointRadio.org to learn what you can do to defend religious freedom. I’m John Stonestreet.
