Some Christians are looking for a fight. Always on a heresy hunt and never acknowledging anything good happening in the world, they’re constantly offended by the world and railing loudly about it. Other Christians are so ashamed of their activist brothers and sisters, they seem comfortable tolerating great evils in the name of being relevant. Their goal is to never offend, but they often end up assimilating the Gospel to culture in ways that compromise truth.

I’m thankful that our history includes men and women of faith who demonstrate what it means to engage the culture while being faithful to the Gospel. Their faith commitments put them on a collision course with their culture, and they had to choose their loyalties and their words. But, silence wasn’t an option.

This weekend on BreakPoint this week, Chuck Colson and I interview best-selling author Eric Metaxas, who’s written biographies on two of these lives: William Wilberforce and Deitrich Bonhoeffer. Listen on local radio, or at Breakpoint.org. For the Point, I’m John Stonestreet.
