College professors would rather not work with Christians.

Yesterday we talked about how colleges and universities tend to secularize students. One factor is the attitudes of professors towards conservative Christians.

A new study by George Yancey of the University of North Texas reports that there’s an unusually high bias against hiring conservative Christians at colleges and universities. Simply put, the vast majority of professors, especially in the social sciences, would rather not hire conservative Christians no matter their academic qualifications. Yancey’s findings mirror those of a Jewish research group from 2007. That study found that a whopping 53% of college faculty hold unfavorable feelings towards Evangelicals.

The temptation is to run from this environment, but I say let’s run to it. Let’s send a new generation of equipped Christian students there, and encourage many of them to be professors. Come to ThePointRadio.org and I will point you to some outstanding organizations who are preparing students for the academic arena.
