It happened in Vegas but didn’t stay there.
The Parents Television Council issued a statement about the Billboard Music Awards show that aired May 22 on ABC. During the show, Britney Spears and Rihanna performed Rihanna’s hit song S&M. The song’s title says it all, and according to the Council’s president Tin Winter it was designed to target teens.
“I cannot imagine what would possibly lead the ABC television network to air a profanity-laced, S&M sex show on primetime broadcast television."
He’s right. Unfortunately, point of these music award shows seems only to out do last year’s show. Each year pushes the line further. What used to be “I want to hold your hand” has become a celebration of sexual deviancy.
Of course, the obvious victims are women who are objectified and dehumanized. The other victims are real artists. Sensationalism has replaced lyrical and musical mastery. True art helps a culture think. Too much that passes for art today just makes us dumb. Tell me what you think at thePointRadio.org.
