A couple weeks we talked about a video that showed at least a dozen people walking by a Chinese toddler who had been hit by a car. She later died of her injuries. I called it “Indifference At Its Worst,” and while it is easy to point at the sliver in the eye of Chinese society, we might have missed one in our own.

The brilliant coaching career of Penn State legend Joe Paterno may be forever tarnished by the actions of former assistant Jerry Sandusky who’s been charged with 21 counts of sexual abuse of minors. Two other university officials, including the athletic director and vice-president have been charged with not reporting known incidents.

A few weeks ago, I quoted Ellie Wiesel who said, “The opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s indifference.” In this case, we might also add distraction.
