Can you even be educated without the Bible? I’m John Stonestreet and this is The Point.

The Idaho Board of Education recently shut down a charter school for using the Bible to supplement its curriculum. According to the Idaho state constitution, “no sectarian or religious tenants or doctrines shall ever be taught in the public school.”

But Isaac Moffett, a teacher at Nampa Classical Academy, claims they weren’t teaching doctrines at all. “[The Bible] is so much more… It’s a primary source of history…” which includes testimony of “…people who lived during the time period.”

David Cortman of Alliance Defense Fund suspects this case will eventually make it to the Supreme Court, which has long held that “it is constitutionally permissible to objectively teach the Bible in public schools for history or comparative literature.”

I agree but would add that it’s also vital to understanding Western civilization and key figures like Augustine, Columbus, Newton, America’s founders, Martin Luther King, Elizabeth, and others.
