He wants to hate Rick Santorum, but he can’t. I’m John Stonestreet, and this is The Point.

In a recent column LZ Granderson accused Rick Santorum of “homophobic rhetoric” that is “addictive, poisonous, and a trigger to violence.” But, he can’t hate him, he says, because he hopes for respectful dialogue.

Despite his debatable take on Santorum, LZ’s hope is a good one. It’s similar to thoughts expressed by Dr. Al Mohler earlier this year that this is issue is a personal one embodied by neighbors, family members, and co-workers -- all of whom deserve love and respect.

But LZ’s column, and subsequent interview demonstrate how difficult it is for Christians to speak to this issue. When asked about religious convictions against homosexual behavior, he responded that Christians should love like it says in the Bible. True, but it’s not just people we are to love. We are to love God, His word, and His ways.

Sometimes, that means going against this world. But we do it because we are for the God, His Word, and the people that bear His Image. For thePointRadio.org, I’m John Stonestreet.
