I’ve got two more things to say about the HHS decision. I’m John Stonestreet, and this is The Point.

If you’ve missed it, I’ve been talking the last few days about why the decision by Health and Human Services to mandate coverage of contraception is so bad. You can hear those commentaries at thePointRadio.org. But, here are two more reasons to consider.

First, the language used in the decision by Kathleen Sebelius puts pregnancy in the same category as other diseases as something to be prevented. Despite our religious convictions about certain forms of birth control, that’s language that all pro-lifers cannot allow to go unchallenged. Pregnancy is never a disease.

Second, this decision will ultimately hurt the poor. Religiously grounded healthcare and charity organizations provides hundreds of millions of dollars of services to those in need every year. This decision will force many of these providers to choose between their convictions and their existence, and there is no way the government could hope to replace that care for the poor that these organizations offer.
