My friend Matt Anderson was interviewed recently on a left-leaning blog about why he holds the conservative convictions he holds. It’s a fascinating interview, and Matt in his typically articulate way makes you think, even if you end up disagreeing with him. Come to thePointRadio.org and I will link you to the interview.
One question Matt received in the interview was why conservative Christianity is so often confused with Americanism, and vice-versa. Matt noted that it’s certainly a danger, but it’s equally wrong to assume that national identity doesn't matter. The late Richard John Neuhaus once said, “When I meet God, I expect to meet him as an American.” For Neuhaus being American wasn’t the most important part of his identity, but it was an “inescapable part of his identity.” And that implies responsibility. The Bible reveals God concerned with time and place -- he determines when and where we live. So it still matters that we are Christians and Americans. For thePointRadio.org, I’m John Stonestreet.
