Now is not the time for silence. For the Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.
Support for so-called “same-sex marriage” may be included on the Democratic party platform this year. Said New Hampshire Democrat Jeanne Shaheen, “Our party has long been a leader on issues of justice and this reaffirms to the country that we are working on behalf of all our families, gay and straight.”
Putting Shaheen’s selective memory about her party's history aside for a moment, what’s most important in this conversation are the definitions. As my friend Mike Bauman says, “sloppy language makes sloppy thought possible.” Sloppy language like “marriage equality” makes marriage something it is not — basically an arrangement that only exists to serve one’s personal happiness or sexual preferences. And this is the same thinking that gutted marriage through no-fault divorce. Marriage was given to facilitate sexual wholeness, not accommodate sexual brokenness.
Today at ColsonCenter.org, you can find part 4 of my series on confronting sexual brokenness and restoring wholeness. I’m John Stonestreet.
