A new analysis of the survey of American college freshmen has some disturbing news: young Americans routinely inflate their academic ability, work ethic and potential for success, all while working less and doing worse in school.

The psychologist who led the analysis blamed this on several cultural factors: parenting, social media, the education system, and celebrity culture. More importantly, he said, this kind of narcissism hurts these kids and others, too. Narcissists tend to neglect relationships personally and professionally. At FoxNews.com Dr. Keith Ablow pointed out how this plays out in the long term. Watch for an epidemic of depression suicides and even homicides, he said.

Instead of blind self-confidence, what the younger generations need to learn is virtue, which equips them to be responsible and teaches them the meaning of life. There is someone much bigger than ourselves. For The Point Radio, I'm John Stonestreet.
