Clarification note: When John talks of Jesus "swapping our nature with His," he is referring to what Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5 that "He who knew no sin became sin for us, that we may become the righteousness of God in Him." As a matter of clarity, Jesus did not abandon His divine nature at any time to assume human nature. He did however take our sin upon Himself, and exchanged it for His righteousness.
