Activists for the secular worldview long ago learned a secret about getting their way:

Keep talking, bluster boldly, make lots of noise, don’t stop.
Of course, this tactic works. Why shouldn’t it? It’s Biblical, after all — well, OK, to an extent.

The promise of the sexual revolution, the promise of freedom and fulfillment beyond the traditional restraints of sexual practice, has not panned out. The prophets and gurus of that failed movement have nothing new to offer, only more of the same, as if the solution to sexual dissatisfaction were simply to have more sex. Like the exhausted prophets of Baal, pleading with their false idol to make his hoped-for power known, our generation, worn out with sex, continues nonetheless to insist on more of the same.

The past several years have witnessed one after another report about child sexual abuse. The scandal in the Roman Catholic Church affected scores of thousands of children. It has resulted in the disciplining and, in some cases, conviction of priests and has cost the Church multiple millions of dollars. The Penn State scandal has left a permanent mark on at least eight young men, not to mention one of the State’s proud universities and several of its top leaders.

Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us. For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. - Philippians 3:17-19

Paul was writing about the false apostles who were perverting the Gospel of Jesus Christ and wreaking havoc within churches throughout the Roman world. But he might just as well have been writing about those who promoted and those who have taken up the sexual revolution which has turned morality on its head over the past generation in America.

In one of his last speeches before being expelled from the Soviet Union, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn urged his audience of artists and writers not to capitulate to the growing lies of the Marxist system. He exhorted them to take the position, concerning the lies that were foisted on the Russian and other peoples, “Let that come, if it must come, only not by me!” Here is good advice for Christians in taking a stand against the lies that are being foisted on our own nation by academics, the media, and activists of all sorts. “All you need is love,” sang the Beatles back in the 60s. People really believed that then. And the reason they believed is because it’s true.

But the love the Beatles were singing about, and the love that has failed and frustrated so many in this generation, is not actually the love we need. We need the greatest love of all, God’s love – manifested in Christ and working out in our lives as love for God and our neighbors.
