Forgiveness and mercy
Rating: 4.00

By some coincidence (or not?), I happened to read these two pieces back-to-back this morning. What a great reminder of the need for forgiveness and mercy, not just in sports and in politics, but in all areas of life.

(I wonder if I would have been quite so forgiving about a bad call in figure skating, as Chuck is about a bad call in baseball . . .)

Comments:

A bad call in figure skating? There are no "calls" in figure skating. Merely judgments.
Oh, believe me, LeeQuod, I needed it more than anyone!

Christopher, "of course" I know? Total sports ignoramus here, remember? ;-) I wouldn't know the difference between a BGSU guy and a "Battlestar Galactica" guy, let alone which one of them Jim Joyce was. But joking aside, he does seem to have made a classy apology.
Great column by Gerson
Very well stated. Excellent.

And of course you know that Jim Joyce is a BGSU guy...so of course he had the dignity to apologize.
Grrrrr....!
DagNABbit, G! There I was, thoroughly enjoying my feelings of superiority over that awful left-wing anti-Semite Helen Thomas, whose feelings of hatred toward people I've only felt when on the freeway and in the "15 Items Or Fewer" checkout line at the supermarket, and *you* go and post this! All my enjoyment completely melted away!! That's just so, so...

...so completely necessary. Thank you.
