"
Oxbridge" is more than a clever play on the words
Oxford and
Cambridge. On July 26 through August 3, 2011, the C.S. Lewis Summer Institute is hosting its tri-annual event honoring C. S. Lewis's life and work. The seminars is held at the two universities at which Lewis taught.
These seminars address the life of the mind and the life of the spirit. This year, the program is titled
Paradigms of Hope: Transcending Chaos & Transforming Culture, which will help participants discover ways to help reintroduce moral discourse into family and community life.
On July 29, Chuck Colson will be joining a cadre of other experts from various fields to help participants work out what that vision is, and offer ways and means to work toward the goal of a good life. Having spoken at the Summer Institute in 2005, Colson has this to says about the event: "It is an unusual conference, I don't think I've attended one in America quite like it. It's where people get very serious and go in-depth into the question of our faith and how to defend our faith."
In the past, a couple of my colleagues have been able to attend this program, and have come back reinvigorated. Six years ago, Gina Dalfonzo presented a paper at the 2005 session titled "
Humble Heroism: Frodo Baggins as Christian Hero in The Lord of the Rings."
I hope that some of you will be able to attend this event and report back to me your thoughts and experiences about it.
