Filling the sex-ed void

This much-discussed New York Times Magazine article is a sobering reminder that if Christians aren't teaching kids about sex with honesty and understanding, and really listening to their concerns and questions, someone else will be. And that person will probably be teaching it with a whole different set of values. (Note: Contains explicit sexual descriptions.)

Comments:

I'm glad this teacher is able to talk so openly to high school seniors and answer their questions. But I did get a kick out of the responder who said her daughter didn't take his class "because she wasn't interested"!

I grew up in a time when people did not openly discuss sex, and had to learn a lot from my husband. I determined not to make the same mistake with my children. So sex ed. started for my oldest when she was about 1 yr. old. She toddled into the bathroom when I was having a period, looked at the pad in my underwear, and stated, "Dirty, dirty, dirty!" I thought, if she's old enough to make the observation, she's old enough to hear something age-appropriate. So, I responded with, "No, that's not 'dirty'. You're a little girl; when you're a grown-up girl, this will happen to you sometimes." She looked at me for a moment and said, "Okay".
