As a new Cub Scout, six-year-old Zachary Christie is proud and excited about
bringing his camping utensils to school and using them at the lunch table. For Zachary, this is a kind of show-and-tell experience with the expectation that others will share his excitement, including his teachers.
NO! He meets with a repelled horror . . . and swiftly his utensils are taken away and the SWAT team is called. Well, not really. But he
is sentenced to 45 days of reform school.
Is this the new face of terrorism in our schools? Zachary’s mom says he loves school and even wears his dress suit there sometimes. I guess we could say he is one of the most well-dressed terrorists in the U.S.
Whatever happened to common sense? Please can't we think before we act? Common sense will tell you that a 6-year-old boy with camping utensils is not a threat to anyone. And what is it that we want this exuberant young boy to be "reformed" into? An angry young boy with all his previous enthusiasm crushed out of him? Is this really what we want?
