Y'know, LeeQuod, I've heard that said so many times, and yet, I don't find it to be true at all. A dog is ready to be friends with anyone, and will do his utmost to please even a brutal master. A cat is a little more discerning in who she will accept as a friend, but once she has chosen you, you've got a fur neckpiece for life!

Pets are a Gift
I've "always" had dogs, and never would have believed that, when my last one had to be put down, I would go 11 years without one. I still miss her. There never is anyone in the world that's happier to see you come home than a dog!
On the other hand, I've "always" had cats, too. I find they are perfect for me now that I'm older and disabled. They are not high-maintenence, like a dog, and are glad to see you but not as comical about it. Except for my little "guardian" (a tuxedo) who comes racing to the door to see who it is, the other 2 lift their heads, look over their shoulders with a look that says, "Oh. It's you.", and go back to sleep. But, when they want to be fed, brushed, or scratched in that "special" place, they know who to come to!
