From Elsie to Lisbeth


In a thought-provoking piece, Karen Swallow Prior argues that Lisbeth Salander is a poor role model -- and so is Elsie Dinsmore. Christians, she suggests, need to find a whole new way of engaging cultural icons -- a way that demonstrates that "they -- we -- are all in need of being loved and accepted for who we are, not demonized or worshiped for who we appear to be."

The people the Bible gives as role models are generally presented with plenty of warts. And it isn't the warts we are expected to follow but the faith.
