What should have been a relatively open and shut assault case shocked many observers when the victim ended up being castigated by Pennsylvania State Judge Mark Martin.Update: This post originally stated that Judge Martin is a Muslim. During a Halloween parade, Ernest Perce, an ardent atheist, was dressed up as a Zombie Mohammad. Talaag Elbayomy, a Muslim, took umbrage at the costume and choked Perce.
As scary as that is, what happened next in the case of Perce v. Elbayomy is even scarier. Judge Martin sided with Elbayomy.
Sadly, Sharia law has become a semi-permanent feature in other democratic countries, so I hope and pray that it won't happen here.
As Andrew McCarthy writes in his brief blurb in National Review Online, "This is a travesty." The travesty started when too many people, in their quest for tolerant, became intolerant.
Meanwhile, I'm glad that Christians didn't bop the fellow in the Zombie Pope outfit over the head.
