BP This Week: Beauty and the Beast and the Benedict Option

03/11/17

John Stonestreet

Disney’s live-action remake of “Beauty and the Beast” comes out next week, and many are expecting it to be one of the biggest openings in box office history. But the company has stirred a up quite a controversy by hinting at an “exclusively gay moment” in the film. John Stonestreet and Ed Stetzer discuss what this means for Christian parents, and how it relates to our standards for entertainment.

Our hosts also devote a segment to the release of columnist Rod Dreher’s new book, “the Benedict Option,” which proposes a strategy for maintaining distinctively Christian identity in a post-Christian society. Dreher’s proposal has been criticized as a retreat from secular culture, which seems like the antithesis of what the Colson Center stands for. John and Ed ask whether “The Benedict Option” can be reconciled with Abraham Kuyper’s famous claim that “there is no single square inch in the whole domain of human existence over which Christ, Who is sovereign, does not cry out ‘mine!'”
