The Point: Editing Eden

John Stonestreet

The snake is still talking. For the Colson Center for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.

In an interview on Fox and Friends, Bruce Feiler, author of “The First Love Story: Adam, Eve, and Us,” claims that the first two people weren’t the original sinners, but “the most misunderstood couple in history.”

“Our original story was a success, not a failure,” says Feiler. “Adam and Eve are role models. They are the first love story.”

Eve, he says, “is a victim of the greatest character assassination in history.” She was “independent” and “resilient” and that’s something we should imitate.

Who knew?! All along, those of us who looked at the first couple’s decision to disobey God and eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil as the moral calamity that plunged the human race and creation into death and futility were wrong! Well, thank goodness Feiler finally set the record straight.

I’d laugh at this, but the lie that Satan told our first parents is the lie behind every sin. And it’s no laughing matter.

By the way, buying that lie is even more foolish than buying Feiler’s book.
