The Point: O Spinach, Where Is Thy Sting?

What is it with leafy greens lately? For the Colson Center for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.

Last week a Florida woman and her husband decided to undergo rabies testing after discovering a decomposing bat in her store-bought bag of organic salad.

And now we learn of a Washington, D.C. woman who bought a bag of spinach only to find a live scorpion inside. “It freaked me out because it started crawling,” she said. Yeah, no kidding…

But even more interesting was the word used by the Washington Post reporter to describe the demise of the scorpion. The reporter said she “assassinated” it with Indian pepper. Now look, you don’t assassinate scorpions. You can kill them, squish them, flush them, whatever. But let’s not elevate the demise of an arachnid to homicide.

“We still have the body, and we have no idea what to do with it,” her husband said.

I’ll tell you what: In solidarity with radical animal rights supporters everywhere, and the late arachnid’s family, we have an idea: Let us know where the funeral will be held, and where we might send donations in lieu of flowers.
