The Point: Participation Mandatory

08/1/17

John Stonestreet

Consent, but not for dissenters. For the Colson Center, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.

Progressive ideology is supposed to be all about choice, tolerance, and consent. But Charlie Gard and his parents didn’t get those things when British courts decided he should die in the hospital.

Jack Phillips didn’t get to consent when a gay couple sued him for not decorating their same-sex wedding cake.

When female members of the Army were told by the Obama administration they’d have to shower with biological men, they didn’t get to consent.

And those people who run pregnancy care centers in California and Hawaii, who were told they must advertise abortion at their clinics and on their websites or face steep fines…well, they don’t get to consent, either.

As my colleague, Shane Morris, writes at BreakPoint.org, those who champion consent these days often seem perfectly willing to force those of us who dissent to participate. The “live-and-let-live” mantra of the progressive worldview is largely an illusion. Especially when it comes to the new sexual orthodoxy. Whenever humans “create” freedoms contrary to nature and God’s design, someone else always loses their freedom.
