The Point: The STD Crisis

Ideas have consequences. For the Colson Center, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.

The CDC reports that sexually-transmitted diseases in the U. S. are at an all-time high. Over two million cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis were reported last year according to the annual Sexually Transmitted Disease Surveillance Report.

Jonathan Mermin, a director at the CDC, told the press that “Increases in STDs are a clear warning of a growing threat” that’s “outpacing our ability to respond.”

Well, how could this have happened? I’m sure it has nothing to do with endless messages from government, media, and schools that casual sex is normal and healthy? Or that a pill or a condom makes sex safe? Or the normalizing of homosexuality and other forms of sexual brokenness?

Ideas matters, folks! They have consequences, and bad ideas have victims. Our public health nightmare is the result of flouting God’s design for our bodies. His rules don’t keep us from being happy, they help us align to reality. Ignoring God’s design will always result in tragedy.
