The Point: New Rule Bad News for Planned Parenthood

07/18/19

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is allowing a new Trump Administration rule on Title X funding to go into effect.

The new rule prohibits Title X grant recipients from performing abortions or providing abortion referrals. Some 20 states and the District of Columbia asked the Court to issue an emergency stay, which would have prevented the rule from being implemented.

The court said no, by a 7-4 vote.

All of this is bad for Planned Parenthood. President Leana Wen called it “devastating news.” (Wen has since been removed as president.) And no wonder. Planned Parenthood receives $60 million a year in Title X funding.

Of course, Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser had a different take: “Without reducing Title X funding by a dime,” she said, the new rule “simply draws a bright line between abortion and family planning, stopping abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood from treating Title X as their private slush fund.”

Of course, with 60 million at stake, Planned Parenthood will continue the legal battle.

Keep praying for life.
