The Point: Rest

I could use some rest. How ‘bout you? For the Colson Center, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.

For too many of us, “rest” has become a four-letter word. But it’s essential for our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. God weaved “rest” into the fabric of the universe on the seventh day—and commanded His people to “remember the Sabbath.”

But what about the other days of the week? Do you find ourselves working way after hours at the office or at home? Do we struggle to enjoy family time, or friend time, without peeking at the messages that come up on our cell phones?

Of course, some work responsibilities are just that—responsibilities. Take care of them. But then, set them aside and rest.

Look, I’ll admit—and my colleagues at the Colson Center will undoubtedly nod in agreement—I can do a better job of all of this myself.

But let’s remember that not only is our rest good for us—it can be a witness to the world that we trust God to provide for us.

Work is a gift from God. But let’s not forget that rest is, as well.
