The works of Dickens, Shakespeare, Dante, and other giants of Western literature are filled with scriptural references—references the authors knew their audiences would understand. Most of these of course are lost today among modern readers, even modern Christian readers.
How can an alienated culture, and alienated people, re-connect with their common Western and Christian heritage? Warren Cole Smith caught up with with Anthony Esolen at the recent Touchstone Conference. Esolen is a Christian social commentator and writer-in-residence at Magdalen College of the Liberal Arts.
